Rob Holding Unfollows Crystal Palace After Being Left Out of Squad
The former Arsenal professional footballer, Rob Holding, has decided to unfollow Crystal Palace from all his social media handles following the frustration of being continuously overlooked when it comes to team selection. Seeking new opportunities, at 28, the defender joined Selhurst Park last year, but he had failed to find a permanent starting position in the first team for several months now. This campaign, he featured just once, in a 3-0 defeat at Manchester United in the Carabao Cup competition.
This has come after Rob Holding’s action on the popular photo-sharing social network Instagram and a lot of speculation and rumor-mongering about his future at his current club. He specifically unfollowed Crystal Palace’s Instagram account and, more tellingly, cleared almost all his posts featuring the team. He has featured on the bench in only one match in this campaign: Palace’s 2-0 loss against West Ham. He did not even feature on the bench in their next game, against Chelsea.

Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, has officially confirmed that player Rob Holding is not currently suffering from any injuries; however, he has been engaging in training sessions separately, apart from the rest of the squad. Glasner did not provide any further explanation regarding the decision to exclude Holding from the group, simply stating, “Rob Holding is training on his own for now. We’ve discussed it, and he knows the reason, but it’s something between us.”
Although Palace recently signed the host of new defenders in their team – namely, Chadi Riad, Maxence Lacroix, and Trevoh Chalobah – the situation with Holding grew more precarious. Fair play, lots of people would think that was a good result: managed to hold Chelsea at 1-1 just before the international break, while many players were not fit for selection owing to various injuries.
And Glasner, after the Chelsea game, saluted the phenomenal spirit and resolve of his team: “We showed superb character in the second half, and Chelsea couldn’t break through our tight defense.” In fact, fans are already rife with what-ifs and speculations about Rob Holding’s future, like will he decide to make a complete exit from Crystal Palace or find his way back into the team.
