Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori has Prepared to Prove Himself Ahead of Manchester City Clash

With Arsenal getting ready for the hotly-awaited Premier League meeting against Manchester City, Riccardo Calafiori has come to Etihad Stadium to seal an important victory. The 22-year-old defender joined from Bologna in the summer transfer window for £42 million and is committed to stamping his authority on the squad as they challenge for the title.

Despite having just joined the club, Riccardo Calafiori has done so much to win over the Gunners with brilliant substitute showings. He has strengthened his case for a regular starting spot under Mikel Arteta thanks to his versatility, which can see him feature as a left-back, left-sided centre-back, or inverted full-back.

Speaking ahead of the clash with City, Riccardo Calafiori made sure to paint a very positive mentality in the Gunners’ camp.

According to Riccardo Calafiori in his sentence, “We believe we can win every game, including this one. That belief and our unity are our strengths. If we play our way, we’re confident we can beat Manchester City,” .

The Italy international missed Arsenal’s North London derby with a calf injury, but has now returned to full fitness and can’t wait to be involved on Sunday. He faces stiff competition in a defence which ranked as one of the Premier League best last season, but remains undeterred.

The competition here is fierce, but that is part of why I came to Arsenal,” Riccardo Calafiori said. “I know it pushes me to improve in every training and every match, so I know I can offer a lot to this team and I am ready to prove it on the pitch.

Recently, he was immense in Arsenal’s goalless Champions League draw with Atalanta as he threw his weight around in midfield when the situation called for such. Afterwards, he reflected on that game, where he hailed the defensive organization and critical double save from goalkeeper David Raya, saying he kept Arsenal in the game.

Riccardo Calafiori added, “David has been incredible for us this season. His saves against Atalanta were crucial, but that’s just what we expect from him now. He’s a fantastic keeper,”

With the visit of Man City next Sunday, there was no doubting that Riccardo Calafiori knew Pep Guardiola’s side would be better rested, given how the midweek fixtures have fallen. However, the Italian refused to make any excuses. He said, “The schedule is what it is. We just need to be ready. We’ll give everything we have on Sunday,” .
