Arsenal Eye Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka for Goalkeeper Role 1

According to reports, Arsenal is lining up a shock move for the experienced Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as Mikel Arteta continues his revamping of the squad this summer. The Gunners would prepare a pathway for Dubravka in the wake of the probable exit of Aaron Ramsdale to come in and bring depth to their goalkeeping options, according to Chronicle Live.

Ramsdale has lost his starting berth to David Raya at Emirates Stadium, and he is understood to be eyeing an exit in search of regular game time. Against the new development, Arsenal have now focused interest on Dubravka, who has spent six years with Newcastle United, but his stock has fallen lately after the signing of Nick Pope and Odosseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest.

Dubravka has been previously linked with a move to Celtic earlier this summer, but the Scottish club has moved to sign former Premier League goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. With more than 150 appearances for Newcastle, Dubravka is one of the club’s longest-serving players, but that tenure at St. James’ Park could soon be over with Arsenal’s keen interest.

Alongside Dubravka, Arsenal has made a few bids for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley, with the latest reported to be £300,000, but Wolves refused the offer as they held out for at least £1 million. One year remains on Bentley’s contract, and he has ties with Arsenal’s goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana from their time at Brentford.

Additional goalkeeping options are now a pressing need at Arsenal, particularly given Karl Hein – Arsenal’s No. 3 goalkeeper last season – is likely to go out on loan. Mikel Arteta showed interest in strengthening the team: “We know there are certain positions that we want to improve and give the squad better resources, especially in terms of numbers where we are very short.”.

“We will try as much as possible, but the main thing is falling in love with the players we have and making them better.”

The Gunners are eyeing Dubravka and Bentley in order to have a strong and reliable goalkeeper line-up ahead of next season.
